Tualang Honey verses Manuka Honey

There are many types of honey selling in the markets nowadays. Tualang Honey is claimed to have better health benefits as compared with other Malaysian honey and even the world popular honey---Manuka. What make it so special than others?

Phenolics and flavonoids are antioxidants found in honeys. They play an important role in free radicals scavenging activities and suppress oxidative stress which may cause chronic or degenerative diseases. Total of 6 phenolic acids and 5 flavonoids were indentified in Tualang Honey. According to an article review done by Department of Pathology, School of Medical Science, Universiti Science Malaysia in 2013, it is reported that Tualang Honey has higher phenolics and flavonoids as compared to other local honey and Manuka Honey.

With the presence of high contents of phenolics and flavonoids, Tualang Honey has both bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties against a range of bacteria, including common bacteria on the skin, inhibits the growth of several bacterial strains, such as, Streptococcus pyogenes, Salmonella typhi, staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative Streptococus spp. and Escherichia coli, and some gram negative bacterial strains in burn wounds management. It is more effective than Manuka Honey against Gram-negative bacterial strain in burn wounds.

Studies of Tualang Honey reported that patients prefer Tualang Honey hydrogel dressing than conventional dressings because the treatment is soothing. They experience the minimal pain and the dressing has a pleasant odour. It is reported that Tualang honey gives a reduction in wound size of 32.26%.
